SynthID Detector

SynthID Detector helps you verify whether an image contains Google’s invisible SynthID watermark. Upload an image, run the scan, and get a clear detection result for authenticity and AI-content verification.

How Does the SynthID Detector Work?

Step 1

Choose the Right Image File

  • Start with the image you want to verify. For the most accurate result:
  • • Use the original file if possible (before resizing or re-saving multiple times).
  • • Prefer JPG or PNG formats.
  • • Avoid heavily edited versions; strong cropping, filters, compression, or re-exports can reduce the watermark signal.
  • If you only have a compressed version (from social media or messaging apps), you can still test it, just understand the result may be less reliable.
Step 2

Open the SynthID Detector Tool

  • Go to the official SynthID detection experience (Google/DeepMind SynthID detector).
  • • Make sure you’re using a stable browser session.
  • • If the page offers multiple ways to try the detector (for example, a Gemini-based flow), choose the option that allows uploading an image for analysis.
Step 3

Upload the Image for Analysis

  • Upload your selected image using the upload button (often a “+” or upload icon).
  • Tips for better detection:
  • • Upload the highest-resolution version you have.
  • • Don’t rename/re-save the file repeatedly right before uploading.
  • • If you have multiple versions of the same image, test the closest-to-original first.
Step 4

Start the SynthID Check (Run Detection)

  • After the image uploads, initiate detection by asking the tool to check for SynthID.
  • You can use clear prompts like:
  • • “Check whether this image contains a SynthID watermark.”
  • • “Is SynthID detected in this image?”
  • • “Does this image show evidence of Google SynthID?”
  • The detector will then scan the file for Google’s invisible watermark signal.
Step 5

Review the Result Carefully

  • The tool will return a result such as:
  • • SynthID detected: The image likely contains Google’s SynthID watermark, suggesting it was generated or edited using Google AI tools that embed SynthID.
  • •SynthID not detected: No watermark evidence was found. This can mean either:
  • The image was not created/edited with Google AI tools, or
  • The watermark was weakened due to compression, cropping, screenshots, or heavy edits.
Step 6

If Needed, Re-check Using a Better Source File

  • If you get “not detected” but still suspect the image may be AI-generated:
  • • Try uploading a less compressed version.
  • • Avoid screenshots and use the original download if available.
  • • Test multiple variants (original vs. edited) to compare results.
  • This improves confidence in the final conclusion.

FAQs

Get clear answers to common questions about using RemixAI.

SynthID is an invisible watermark embedded into some content generated or modified by Google AI tools. It helps identify AI-made media.
It strongly suggests the image passed through Google AI tools that embed SynthID. It doesn’t necessarily describe the full creation history beyond that.
Heavy compression, resizing, cropping, re-exports, screenshots, or edits can reduce or remove the watermark signal, making detection harder.
It indicates the image likely passed through a Google AI tool that embeds SynthID (generated or edited). It doesn’t explain every step of the image’s history.
No. It only means the tool didn’t find SynthID. The image could still be AI-generated using non-Google tools, or the watermark may have been degraded.
Usually not reliably. Screenshots often change the image data and reduce the ability to detect invisible watermarks. Use the original file when possible.
